I have a thing for history, and baby this is the town for it. The coloseum, the forum, the catacombs and all the other relics of the ancient Roman civilization in a town that has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years. And don’t forget the Vatican. I am not a Religious person, but the famous Michelangelo painting on the ceiling of the Sistine showing God creating man gave me chills.
over 6 years agoA nice little town, only a couple hours from LA. I’ve had some good times here. Not raging times, but dinners with friends and family, drinks and dancing with pretty girls and yummy margaritas at one of the many fine Mexican food joints in town. Its a little pricey, but a good place to go walking, shopping and hanging out. Its also unbearable hot in the summertime.
over 6 years agoNothing, and I mean NOTHING makes you feel so small as staring down that humongous pit snaking away as far as the eye can scan. I visited it twice. Both times on cross-country drives with my family, the second time in my dad’s restored ’62 Vette (I was 15 at the time, and he let me drive at times!). I remember being at least 15 feet away and still wanting to grab hold of the earth for dear life. Pictures cannot explain it. It shakes the psyche.
