One of the poshest parts of Bristol, Clifton has a reputation as something of a village within a city. Bounded by the Downs on the north, the Avon Gorge to the west (with Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge), the docks to the south and thriving lively Whiteladies Road on the east, Clifton has everything. Some people never leave.
over 6 years agoOne of the most civilized places in the UK, everything you would expect in terms of regency grandeur, and a bit more real life than Bath.
over 6 years agoAvebury is one of the most fascinating ancient sites in the UK. It’s popular with the tourist crowds and hippies, but it’s large enough not to feel crowded (even on mid-summer’s eve).
As a National Trust property there is a visitors centre and a museum (that I didn’t go in) and there is a pub right in the village in the circle.
I would much rather go to Avebury than Stonehenge, which is not all that far away.
