Nevada, United States

flyingonmyangelwings asks,

“Im going to Vegas for a week and i would like to know which are the "must see" places or atractions???”

ardilla answers,

The north rim of the canyon is not open this time of year. you’d have to go to the south rim which is at least a 4 hour drive.

Las Vegas, Nevada

JamesBrien asks,

“What is the best route to take from Yosemite National Park to get to Las Vegas”

ardilla answers,

I’d agree with Pii to take Hwy 120 to 395 and then through Death Valley. If I remember correctly, you will go through Tioga Pass which is the highest highway in America. Hopefully you are doing this in the Summer because this pass is closed during the winter and you’d have to go all the way south to I-15 to go around the Sierra.

Good luck!

Las Vegas, Nevada

ardilla answers,

I made that same trip (on I-5 then across to I-15) last winter and it was about 7 hours. Highway 58 is just a 2-lane undivided highway full of trucks for a big stretch when you get close to Barslow, CA. The speed limit in some areas is 55 mph.

On the other hand, even though Highway 95 doesn’t look that big in the maps, it’s actually a 4 lane divided highway with a 65 mph speed limit, and like Pii said, it’s a much more scenic and interesting drive.

Have a great trip!

Denver, Colorado

ardilla asks,

“I jumped on a plane yesterday on a last-minute trip to Colorado. I'm staying in Boulder and have absolutely loved the place. I had planned to go to Rocky Mountain National Park. I also want to go to the Shambala Mountain Center. What are the best thing”

ardilla answers,

Cool. I’ll look for it tomorrow on my way to Red Rock. Thanks!

ardilla answers,

Robert, thanks so much for all the tips! I do have a car, but unfortunately not that much time, I’m going back Tuesday night. On the plus side, I liked this place so much that I’ll definitely come back in the near future.

Thanks again!

Zion National Park, Utah

CoreyK asks,

“This is the last of four places I will potentially visit in between Austin and Las Vegas. Zion is another stretch and my travel buddy is not the biggest fan of natural wonders (he prefers chatting up young women at bars and drinking). So this guy from”

ardilla answers,

Your travel buddy will have plenty of opportunities to do that in Vegas, Zion is definitely worth the detour. I visited while I lived in Vegas and was very impressed with the park. I wouldn’t put it in the same category as the Grand Canyon, but it is certainly one of the most amazing National Parks I’ve visited. A drive-through would be an injustice. Zion has great hikes. My personal philosophy when offered the possibility to go to a National Park is always to go, you never know when you’ll have the chance to go again.

“Traveling to the redwoods for a week of camping/hiking. I'm landing in SF and will be staying for a night before I drive north. Any suggestions for a nice, inexpensive & clean place to stay in or around the city?”

ardilla answers,

Thanks! I’ll be giving them a call as they don’t have their rates posted on their website.

ardilla answers,

The Tortoise looks like a pretty good choice, thanks!

Thanks for all the info on public transport. I will make use of it on the way back as I have to return the rental car around 4 pm and my plane leaves at midnight, so I’ll need to get to SFO by other means.

I’m driving all the way to the Redwoods National Park, so I’m only staying in the city the night I arrive, then driving north. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother with a car :)

Thanks again.

ardilla answers,

That looks like a really cool hotel. Unfortunately $100/night is out of my budget, but I’ll definitely keep the name in mind for the future. Thanks!
