Beautiful City

I studied in Hanoi for two months in the summer of 1999. From what I’ve heard, it’s definately a more low-key city than Saigon. Ho Hoan Kiem and Van Mieu are beautiful. The people are very welcoming. It’s much easier to get around if you rent a bicycle or a moped (the latter only if you’re either very confident or suicidal). If your bike breaks down, there are bicycle mechanics on almost every street corner. (Sadly, I’ve heard that many of the older mechanics are former intellectuals who fell out of favor with the regime).
