Its nice to visit, but forget about the tour. The guide wasn’t really interested in telling us the stories, it took very long (and it was so hot) and she wasn’t able to answer our questions. Get a descent guidebook and figger it out for yourself. The waterpalace is nearby (unfortunately no swimming there) and the bird market. If you go at 10 or 11 in the morning you can see some gamelan dancing/music. Sometimes the princess dances herself. It turned out Gamelan wasn’t as boring as I expected it to be and was actually the highlight in the Kraton. Expect hordes of schoolchildren to practice their English on you. If you get bored just make up a funny story. They don’t have write it down so their teachers won’t get upset.

Anne Frank Huis, Amsterdam-Centrum

strange

It was kinda strange to visit the Anne Frank house, since Ive seen so many documentairies about her, (almost finished) read(ing) her book and visiting Auschwitz and all..

I found it very hard to grasp the atmosphere and imagine myself in Anne’s place, what she must have felt and thought. It was relatively quite on tuesday but it still felt like I was just looking for another apartment.. maybe because we’re thinking about moving and we spend the last 2 years living in golden age atticks..

also, seeing the diary itself… It was special, but it was so strange to see the real thing..

maybe I should go again, in winter..

my deepest regret is that I couldn’t figger out which of the trees was THE tree.. We had a discussion about it, and now Im wondering if they hadn’t cut it down yet.

Maybe Ill go again next week or so, just to see the tree..

(Just saw on the wikipedia site Anne described the tree 3 times, the first time on my birthday (excl. year ofcourse.) stupid.. but I find myself even more connected with the tree.. SAVETHETREE!)

Knut isnt Gut

Berlin is beautiful, has lots of Starbucks and overall a good place to be..

Don’t expect much of Knut the Polarbear tho.. Hes gotten so big we didn’t even know which of the 4 bears was him.
