Escape From New York Pizza, Haight-Ashbury

Mediocre

As a New Yorker I am in a unique position to criticize ‘Escape from New York Pizza’. When the pizza escaped from New York it must have left its flavor along the way because this pie was poorly balanced (too much dough, and bland at that, sub-par sauce and cheese). Frozen pizzas are more New York Style than this. I mean, it was edible, and on an empty stomach still hit the spot, but if I’m ever back in SF I’ll search a bit harder for a good pizza.

Gray's Papaya, West Village

I don’t quite understand all the hype surrounding Gray’s Papaya… the lines can be way longer than necessary. However, they are damn fine dogs. Taste kind of like the hot dogs you’d get at a state fair. Juicy, greasy and pretty much the perfect before/after food for a night of drinking. Wrapped up in tin foil and covering your hands in condiments, Gray’s Papaya is worth a visit, but don’t expect a beefy miracle.
