I’m waiting to hear whether or not I got into the university of new south whales (fingers crossed) – in the meantime I’m thinking positive by looking for some potential places to live – can anyone tell me where some great neighbourhoods are that might be close to uni? Or the beach – between both would be nice ;) I’m clueless about the city and would love a few tips from some insiders.

loved it, had to leave it, still see it, kinda miss it.

My family on my mothers’ side were fifth generation colonists in Algiers, and when the war broke out they were exiled back to France with nothing. Mum was always ashamed of being associated with colonialism, even though she was born there and had no say, and was just 10 years old when they escaped. She died two summers ago from breast cancer, and I just found out that my family in France (on her side) just came back from a quasi pilgrimage to Algeria, their first trip back in a half-century. The house my mum grew up in is now the house of the president, and their vacation house belongs to one of the ambassadors, which was pretty interesting to me. I’m secretly really upset that they didn’t tell me about their plans to go – It surprised me they didn’t tell any of her children. I guess I’ll have to go myself.

This is one of my favorite places, I try to take the ferry accross from Yaletown at least once a week – sooo much good food, fantastic art school – it’s awsome.

I came through Nimbin in a rainstorm, and I didn’t get to stay for long, but I’m definately going back. I have never seen such a rad little place; I’d heard stories about it before I got there, but I didn’t believe them – now I know. I have never seen so much weed in my life – there were buds litterally all over the sidewalks, it was heaven. and the food’s good too.

definately check out the the local museum on the history of Nimbin- which is actually an LSD induced journey into the history of cannabis and other mind expanding drugs.

also, there are some great little cafe’s with beautiful back patios in the rainforest. ate a few cookies in the rain, and felt right at home.

Undecided about whether I approve with the ethics (environmental, or social) – this is likely a polluting playground for oil guzzling, resource exploiting shamelessly wealthy 0.1% of the world – but as an eighth wonder of human architectural achievement that you can see from space – it’s definitely an incredible human accomplishment and I will have to visit to see in person.

I only got to treck around the north island for a week – i have to go back. it’s fantastic.

Auckland is very much like vancouver and parts of victoria, BC, except slightly more beautiful.
