Favorite islands should include Green Turtle Cay, Guana Cay, Harbour Island and Eleuthera. Take extra friends and rent a nice house on the beach. Be sure you get to see plenty of photos of a place before you rent and don’t take their word for it — you don’t want any disappointments when you arrive. Ask what other kinds of buildings and things are nearby the property. Be wary of just looking at a couple of photos and not much detailed information. Most of the better places rent upwards of a year in advance for prime time which is Spring so do your homework early and do it well.

Some of the best smallmouth fishing in the U.S. can be done right below Pickwick dam on Pickwick Lake. You can put your boat in at the public dock in downtown Florenceville, Alabama. We caught smallmouth that weighed over 5 pounds fishing with Carl Boaz, a well known fishing guide at Pickwick Lake. Don’t believe me, check out his photos!

The restaurants on Harbour Island are some of the best in the Bahamas — bring an appetite. If you’re on a budget, it’s not exactly cheap either, but you can still get excellent food at reasonable prices — places that cater to the local Brilanders like Angela’s Starfish Restaurant, Avery’s and Ma Ruby’s, the official home of Jimmy Buffet’s genuine “Cheese Burger in Paradise.” And yes, the burgers are really that good. Say “hi” to Ma!

When it comes to dropping the big nickel, gotta check out Rock House — very hip place and very excellent food. And this is just the beginning of cool restaurants.
