Despite what some of these entries have to say, I found the French Quarter to be charming, yes after Katrina. The city is very vibrant and definitely still trying to rebuild. The streets are cleaned regularly, but there is a bit of a smell to it. It’s a big city so higher crime rates, homelessness, and parking problems just come with that. Using common sense is all that it takes to be safe here. It’s definitely worth visiting at least once! Just walking down Dauphine St. feels like being in a different country.

Open 24 hours a day to fill that craving for beignets!

In our nation’s capital, there is plenty to see and do. The surrounding areas are also fun to visit.

Riding the metro is convenient, as long as it isn’t during rush hour.

There is extending security in most of the museums and government buildings, so be prepared to have your bags searched and poked at with a stick.

The war memorials are very well built, and often quite emotional to see, as many people still come to look up the names of those they lost.

And sometimes, if you are lucky, you will see a protestor standing outside the whitehouse.

Please, If you are going to take your children here, take them when they are old enough to even remember what they did (aka not 5 months old) Or before they are too old to enjoy the childlike magic of the place (as my parent did).

Was miserable of course, because obviously, one of the main attractions in a Germantown is the German beer.

Kinda fun to see German themed McDonalds and such, and scenic mountains and waterfalls. Better for an older crowd. My Oma had a fabulous time!

Even though I stayed in Wilm. during march, there was still plenty to do. The downtown shops are adorable and the dining is good. And who wouldn’t want to visit the school where Dawson’s Creek was filmed?

The “downtown” feel of a street lined with shops is so cute, and worth the hour and a half drive from where I live. There are sweet boutiques, a Plan9 and good places to eat.

Beware: Although Carytown is on Cary Street, the two are not the same thing… don’t get lost like I did.

Your typical college town on the upswing.

This town is small, quiet, and homey. It is no beach resort town, by any measure, but a peaceful and beautiful place to visit.
