Hoi An was a refreshing break on my tour of Vietnam. A small tourist town, that operates at a slower pace than many other Vietnamese tourist stops. A great place to spend a few days, have some clothes and shoes made to measure, chill out at a great open air cafe and enjoy some “fresh beer”.

Fantastic architecture – especialy art nouveau, which I love. Very accessible – you can walk around easily. Gorgeous setting, with the castle overlooking the river. And it’s still relatively inexpensive.

Oh, so expensive! So expensive locals find it cheaper to leave the country to go shopping or have a night out! But definitely worth seeing – so much history! Take warm clothes and a rain jacket.

I stayed in a rather shabby little hotel at the base of the hill. It was wonderful to mingle with the locals in the park, neighbourhood shops, and markets away from the main tourist drag. Also fantastic to walk up the hill to Sacre Coeur the evening I arrived and look out over the city.
