Worth visiting!

Untitled

Pay the paltry admission fee for access to the second level. But don’t fall down the steps! They’re treacherous!

Rita's

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Ridiculously good!

Rita’s is just about the greatest simple treat around. The gelati is a best-of-both worlds creamy, sweet experience. But for a buck and some change, you can get a satisfying scoop of fruity, frosty refreshment. Nothing beats the watermelon.

New Hazlett Theater

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

There are seats in the wings above the stage. If you catch a performance where these are open, there’s no better seat. It’s definitely worth inquiring.

A tip I have about this place

There’s a pinball room! Nuff said.

National Aquarium

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

The aquarium is phenomenal, but your time is best spent exploring the facilities. Unless your kids threaten never to forgive you, skip the dolphin show.

American Visionary Arts Museum

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Best Gift Shop on Earth

The American Visionary Arts Museum is shockingly good. The draw is that everything here was created by untrained artists, many of whom were considered during their lives to have nothing valuable to contribute to society. And some of the artists weren’t even human. It will challenge your assumptions about art and perception.

And it’s got the best gift shop on Earth.

Twin Lakes Park

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

If you live in Westmoreland County, it’s worth the effort to visit Twin Lakes. You’ll be hard-pressed to resist going back.

Seton Hill University

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Seton Hill is the best place I’ve ever seen for watching sunsets and thunderstorms.

Basilique Du Sacré-Coeur

Worth visiting!

How this place changed my life

I fell in love with buskers! I was Pennsylvania teenager sitting atop Paris gazing at the sunset, and this fellow descended with a breezy acoustic version of “No Woman No Cry,” creating the type of moment that lasts a lifetime.

Kelly's

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

So you want to go to wing night, but you’ve got all these vegetarian friends. Kelly’s is the answer. Their Pittsburgh Bites resurrect the boneless wing, and there’s a tofu version for those in the group who’ve sworn off animal products. Stick with the mild version unless you generally prefer suicide wings.

And you shouldn’t go in dancing for at least—
An hour—
Yeah, an hour—
A good hour.

Kelly’s also makes a mean mojito – among the best in the Burgh.
