Chester has been one of my favourite places ever since I was little. A walk round the walls is a must.

One is never quite the same after visiting Liverpool. It’s a city with much more reputation than it deserves. It’s also visually stunning, especially since the burnt out areas have been swept away. The pubs are some of the best anywhere and retain their character where those of other cities have let theirs slide. And whatever others may say it still has the greatest football club the world has ever known!

But it was barely more than an hour or so between trains. It’s certainly a place enticing enough to make me want to go back.

Dublin is a wonderful city on a human scale.
Stay away from Temple Bar – I found the best music in Lower Baggot Street. Also don’t forget to take the DART train out to Howth (to the north) and Dalkey (to the south).

The UK’s most northerly town. A curious place with a busy harbour, bars with live music and more fresh lamb and fresh salmonn than you know what to so with.

I love Brussels. It’s a severely underrated city. Where else can you not only get the best beer and the best chocolate in the world and moules et frites, but also a Tintin museum and a métro station called Jacques Brel!

And no visit to Zürich is complete without tea and chocolate cake at the Sprüngli café! (Although that’s not what the picture is)

It’s not mountain Switzerland but it’s still a great city to be. The Tinguely fountain is not to be missed, so is the Tinguely museum. When I go back I want to try doing as the locals do – jump into the Rhine and let the current carry me downstream!
