OK, I have been so busy with the promotion at work and PhD applications that I never wound up treating myself. I am going to turn this into an I got accepted to a PhD program trip.

I want to visit relatives — those I know and don’t know. I want to see all of the places that my grandfather set foot on as a child. I want to find out if St. Stephen feels like home. I want to take a lot of pictures and record a lot of film. I want my daughter to run around in the country air.

A tiny southern town with a population of less than 1800 — most of whom I am related to. A library that is open only three days a week and where you purchase your meat at the slaughterhouse. Winn Dixie and Piggly Wiggly are exciting, so are the open roads. I expect to see a lot of dense woods whose inhabitants call cinder block structures with tin roofs home. This trip is 3 months away.
