I’m living in the Netherlands next year, studying on a Fulbright scholarship. I’ll be furiously working on my Dutch and studying literature at Leiden. Any tips on absolutely anything about living there would be very much appreciated!

I’ve been studying South African literature lately, and my partner is half South African. I’m hoping to fit in a trip in the next couple of years.

As far as I’m concerned, the most beautiful state in the union. Mountains and beaches within an afternoon’s drive, and some thriving, artsy cities. Don’t go to New England to see the fall colors, go to the Blue Ridge Mts. in VA. And if you’re interested in American history, you can’t do much better.

At least for another month or so. I’ve been reading for an MA at the University of York. A wonderful city! If you’re ever going to the UK, stop by (it’s about halfway between London and Edinburgh, so it shouldn’t be out of your way). It’s small enough that you can really get to know it in a couple of days. And if you’re hungry, try Oscar’s—a great wine bar with awe-inspiring food portions.

My boyfriend was born and raised in Hawaii, but I’ve never been. I’ll be going this summer for his sister’s wedding, and I’m so excited. It’ll be a nice change of pace after a year in northern England.
