Marquette

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: I grew up there

It’s the most beautiful place on Earth in the Summer and Fall. The winter is long and hard, and the Spring is often snowy.

Underground

Not worth visiting!

A review of this place

Every few years, someone gets a bug to “revitalize” Underground and it becomes Disney-fied for a while. Then it goes to hell again, with gangs and violence a constant threat.

I have lived in some pretty bad neighborhoods (one of them nicknamed “the war zone” because of the gang violence), but I’m not comfortable going to Underground anymore.

Georgia Aquarium

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

It is the largest aquarium in the US, but it is laid out in such a way that it is manageable to navigate and see everything.

When I was there, it was pretty crowded with school groups, but I was still able to see everything I wanted to.

The largest tank is amazing, and houses thousands of fish along with two whale sharks – these are very rare to find in captivity.

They also have a “petting zoo” with baby nurse sharks, rays, horseshoe crab, starfish, and plenty of other weird-looking creatures for the kids to learn about.

Turner Field

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Although I'm not a Braves fan

I had a great time at Turner Field. I took MARTA to Underground and took the Braves Shuttle to the ballpark. Avoiding parking there was fantastic, and the shuttle dropped us right in front of the entrance.

Inside the ballpark, there are tons of food and merchandise vendors, and I didn’t even have to wait in a line for the bathroom. There are views of the field from nearly everywhere on the concourse.

I was rooting for the visiting team (the Brewers), and the Braves fans put up with me gracefully. :)

World Of Coca Cola

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

While it’s a bit pricey ($9 each for adults), learning about the history of Coke was neat, and they have a tasting room where you can try sodas from all over the world.

Ikea

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

I love IKEA. I am young(ish) and poor(ish), so having a place to buy inexpensive furniture that looks nice is fantastic!

Most of the furniture here is very clean lines and modern looking without being cold. The accessories are super inexpensive and decent quality.

The Varsity Restaurant

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: First Fast Food Restaurant in the World

The Varsity is the oldest fast food restaurant anywhere. You can’t go here and expect “slow food” restaurant service.

That being said, I love the chili fries and the hot dogs here. I am used to a crisper dog, a la Nathan’s in New York, but theirs is nice and tasty on a steamed bun.

The frosted orange is to die for, and if you go in, you can get a paper hat as a souvenir. :)

Vortex

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: The Vortex

The best hamburgers I have ever had in my life are from the Vortex. The atmosphere is laid back and fun, and they’ll cook your burger to order (even rare!!). I recommend the bacon cheddarburger and sweet potato fries. :)
