Worth visiting!

I went there back around 1993; My ex had some friends there; real nice folks and they took us there; My girls were real young at the time and I wanted to go there and see it; One of the things I remembered about this place is that primarily the area around that motel was real spooky; It’s like NOTHING has changed from 1968 till then. I really want to go back there and enjoy it without folks interrupting and all.

Mardi Gras

How to have a good Mardi Gras in Mobile

I have been more than once. It starts like two weeks before with night parades and Sat. day parades; then the very last weekend, we have big parades; Sun, we have some more parades, but the biggest thing is the Joe Cain Parades; It is said that Joe Cain started the parades here in Mobile, which IS the original birthplace of Mardi Gras, and had a bunch of widows, so each year, the widows come out and go to his grave; interesting then Monday, there are parades in Prichard, and on MLK Ave, culminating with Fat Tuesday where it seems everyone is downtown enjoying the festivities; Just to let you know, if you come here for Mardi Gras, get your hotel WAY in advance. you got folks that book the day Mardi Gras end for the following year no lie; if you come down to the parades, some bring campers so they can enjoy and then eat and have their own private bathrooms; I also recommend if you do the foot route, bring a portable seat please. there is ample porter potties but be mindful of the crowds, also a LOT of vendors selling food, clothes, pictures, an amusement park for those who want to ride, and dress casual and be mindful of the weather. sometimes it rains Fat Tuesday; sometimes not.

Back around 2002, I had to go to Selma to a funeral, and when you go up to Selma, you get off I-65 at the Selma exit, and take the very same highway that Martin Luther King Jr and group took on the Selma to Montgomery March back in 1965; no lie, the same highway; and when you get ready to go into Selma, you will see a memorial that you can visit; more like an art mural about the significance of the place, then you get on that famous bridge, still in the same shape it was back in the day and get into Selma;

I been through here in 1981 on my way to Detroit for a youth convention with my church; we spent the night in a trailer park here; One thing though, at the Canadian border, they made us ALL get out the RV trailer, search through our stuff and get back in; that was probably a bit intimidating; I am supposed to go back to Detroit again next June and wlll probably revisit this place again; (better have my passport handy)

I had to stop through here on my way to the cruise boat to the Bahamas; it is a real nice place; I had some great and not so great experiences; I had to take a bus to the hotel to meet the folks I was to meet up with for the cruise and I gave the wrong name and the fella riding the bus was like, uhh uhh; no and kept moving; but this other guy was real nice and told me what to do; I even went to the Intercontinental, and those folks were past professional and nice; I happened to go down there right after Miami Heat won the NBA and it was hectic because I was trying to get to these folks to meet them and things were a bit hairy; but I was real happy for folks reaching out to me after being on the bus 17 hours from Mobile; so yes, I would like to check it out again in the future.

One of our Pastors, Pastor Samuel A Amfo, is a native of Ghana; He is a very intelligent man and I want to visit the country that he is from and also the country that Yaa Asantewaa fought so hard and courageously to keep from the British; It used to be called the Gold Coast; and somehow I feel, my roots are here;

Let me be free

I guess just knowing that I can walk a beach and not worry about how I look makes me want to gravitate to it; I read in Essence how ladies down there in all shapes and sizes just walk on the beach without a care in the world; Oh!! to be me; Not to show or expose nothing; Just to be and feel free;
