I have hiked and climbed all over RMNP and I still enjoy finding “new” spots in this sometimes crowded paradise. If you visit, there are some places worth seeing that aren’t on the park map. Ask around and enhance your visit.

I spent two weeks working just outside of Elkton, VA. Shen NP is just east of the Shenandoah valley and I spent a couple days in the hills of Shen NP exploring. I ran on the “Big Run Loop” one afternoon after work and thought it would be funny if I saw a bear. I saw one bear thrashing through the bushes uphill from me. Towards the end of my run I ran into a smaller bear that scrambled thirty feet down a tree to greet me. I really enjoyed Shen NP, especially the natural isolation one can enjoy after work and only a mile or two from the road.
