Say goodbye to the Polar Bear Plunge...

The Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge (http://njpolarplunge.sonj.org/) was held for the last time in Point Pleasant in 2006. The “official” story was that there were too many people from the plunge, most having ties to law enforcement in other municipalities, acting drunk and disorderly and the town not having enough police of their own to manage them. I have done the plunge for seven years now and have seen precisely two thoroughly inebriated people during that time. Both barely made it out of the water and I doubt either of them were standing up much longer afterwards.

Seaside Heights, further south and with a far more alcohol soaked boardwalk than Point, has graciously taken over the Plunge. I think once Point realizes how much money it loses from the event (most of the boardwalk is open for this, including restaurants and arcades), they may try to coax Special Olympics northward again.

Nova Scotia, Canada

Our Honeymoon trip

We took this as an alternative to a tropical island trip and we were not disappointed. Rent a car, pick out some local hotels and start driving. The people are ridiculously friendly, the scenery is beyond description, and the seafood is fantastic. Try the mussels from Bra D’or Lake: no sand!

Aruba, Central America And The Caribbean

Best island trip, hands down

From friendly people to wonderful restaurants, Aruba has it all! I’d leave to go there tomorrow without a second thought.
