If you like art, but are not that into going into pricey galleries, I’d recommend walking Canyon Road early in the morning. My friend and I walked the whole length of it starting around 7 a.m. It was just us, some joggers and dog-walkers and the art. Very nice.
We stayed at Dunshee’s B&B, which I would recommend. The casita was perfect.

but I wouldn’t recommend it if you have to drive more than an hour or so to get there. Unless you really like to shop in little gift shops.
The last part of the drive from the 101 was very pretty. Take 154 through Santa Ynez Valley on your return drive if you’re coming from the south.
Photo: Cool painting in the Hans Christian Andersen museum, upstairs in the Book Loft.

My friend ADiver, whom I met in kindergarten, invited me to meet her here in November. I want to!

If you stop in CC you need to get downtown. It’s an old-fashioned Midwestern downtown.
When I grew up we used to shop here every weekend. It holds a lot of great memories.

I graduated from UCLA and then worked on campus in the libraries for the next 8 years. It was a great experience. Especially helpful to be in such a green environment, having moved here from the Midwest and living in the City for the first time.

Once my mom and I got up on stage and danced and sang with them at the end, even though it wasn’t either of our birthdays.
See why I love my mom?
