The story goes that a Johnny Appleseed of sorts, established the apple industry that now dominates Henderson County. Though the heirloom varieties of apples rapidly disappeared, established families here grew apples for consumption as fresh fruit, apple juice, apple brandy, for preservation by drying and canning, and as crafting media for such as shrunken apple heads. The story says that ‘Johnny’ passed over the Chickasaw Knob, within sight of my home.
