National World War II Museum, Central Business District

Excellent place to spend some time.

I’ve always been a bit of a WWII nut, so naturally I enjoyed the D-Day museum. There’s information on all aspects of it there, including actual vehicles and planes, videos showing what happened, actual setups showing what it was like to live in a barracks or look out from one of the German bunkers on D-Day. Awesome stuff. Lots of great commentary, and an excellent gift shop.

The Myrtles Plantation, St. Francisville

Really great.

I’ve only been to the Myrtles Plantation once, but I’d been wanting to go my entire life since I’ve always been sort of a ghost-story nut. When I got there, though, the novelty of it being a haunted house sort of faded away, and I was just blown away by how beautiful and peaceful it was there. The house doesn’t give off a bad feel at all; in fact, I felt perfectly at home there.

The tour guides are friendly, and there’s even a restaurant in a smaller building built next to the house. Lots of rich history here. I recommend it to everyone.

The Alamo, San Antonio

Untitled

The Alamo is pretty neat. I went there several years ago when I was younger, and it’s definitely a great sight to see. Only problem I had with it was that although it was neat, I didn’t feel as if it warranted an entire trip. History buffs will probably disagree, though. The surrounding area as a whole is what’s really nice to me, and the Alamo is more or less the icing on the cake.
