Buckingham Palace, City of Westminster

The mobs of Buckingham....

At this point I have been to see the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace twice. I emphasize that I have been to see, but did not actually see it the first time. After Madame Tussaud’s, my friend Liz and I headed out to the Palace to fight the crowds. Little did I realize that at one point I would be literally fighting the crowd, or at least an old lady in it. I was moving towards the gate and there were quite a few people around the gate, well, actually it was a mob. This lady was pushing by me and saying excuse me, and when I looked at her she started yelling at me for having no respect and hit me in the stomach with her purse. After that I was done playing tourist. I sat on the rail nearby and enjoyed watching the mass hysteria. I did see a lot though that day.

My second attempt was much more successful and I was right at the gate and able to see all that happens in the courtyard. In the middle of it all though, a taxi cab pulled into the gates and right up to the front door. The part that absolutely cracked me up was the fact that there was this huge ad plastered on the side of the cab for Austin Powers new movie “Goldmember”. I died seeing all this tradition and pomp, and there was this ad for a current goon of a movie just right there.

British Museum, Bloomsbury

Untitled

I’d heard it many times before, and have many times since, and it is very true that there is never enough time to see EVERYTHING in this location. I made the mistake on my first time of being there, to stay almost a whole day forcing myself to see everything I could, but only ended up burning myself out. It is my recommendation before you go to look at their website (http://www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk/) and get an idea of which exhibits you would like to see before you go. If you have all the time in the world, go and visit in daily hourly doses. I found that I absorbed more as well as it being a highly enjoyable experience. I am excited to be returning in just a week or so.
