Skip downtown and head to Hecksher Drive to go to Huguenout (sp?) Park and spend time on the beach near the Jetties. Fishing, swimming (at your own risk, jellyfish season right now, ya know? plus rip currents), wind sailling, boating. So beautiful down that way. Nassau Sound is a good place to fish, off the George Crady bridge. Then head on up to Fernandina Beach to collect sharks teeth and watch the surf come in, off of Fletcher Avenue (not to mention, the houses on the beach are a sight to see there.) ((Also, don’t swim in the St. John’s river, thank you. It’s for your own health.))

It’s beautiful there, quiet, and I hear the crablegs there are great. Myself and my parents used to go and stay at a hotel on the beach when our family company were doing commercial jobs. Probably not exciting like crowded South Beach or stuffy, pee-on-the-streets New York, but far more beautiful.

A beautiful place indeed. Even on the sustained knowledge that much of St. Augustine is a tourist trap, you can find decent deals on some really beautiful furnishings, home or garden or just plain souveneir. The beaches are nice too, though I haven’t to the beaches since 5th grade, and that was a long time ago.
