Venezia, Veneto

Surreal

Upon exiting the trainstation to the edge of the canal, waiting for a bus/boat, my husband said “Wow, this is like Disneyland. All you need is wires guiding the boats around.”

The transformation to an entirely water/island framework is stunning. A whole new set of things to see, smell, taste, feel.

Kenya, Africa

Try to get outside of Nairobi!

Kenya is a country of so many contrasts, borne both of it’s place in Africa and all the powers who have come through it over the years. Try and get out of the city and into smaller towns and villages. It is not all about safari…

I hope on my next visit to go out to Mombasa and the coast.

Rialto Beach, Olympic Peninsula

Rialto Beach, Olympic National Park

Rialto Beach is on the west coast of Washington State on the Olympic Penninsula. It is part of Olympic National Park. The beach access starts at the south end of the beach, just north of the La Push harbor (but note, the road to La Push is NOT the road to Rialto. The road splits a few miles inland.) Huge washed up trees line the sandy souther part of the beach. Northwards sea stacks dot the shallows, great tidepools at low tide, and forest hugs the upper reaches of the beach. At the northern portion of the beach backpacking camping is allowed, all the way to “hole in the wall” – an archway you can pass through at low tide. On the other side, the trail continues northward.
