There doesn’t seem to be much to see in Fort Payne itself, but the scenic routes to the East are stunning. I stayed in a cheap hotel in the town and drove slowly back towards Atlanta and my flight home, using the back roads and scenic routes. Wonderful.
over 3 years agoI wouldn’t go again, but I’m glad I went once. The French Quarter is sleazy and frightening, full of “barely legal” strip joints and the streets are paved with drunks. There’s some good jazz to be heard if you search a little. A ride on a street car is essential. Don’t go into the French quarter after dark.
over 3 years agoI drove the southern half from Jackson to Natchez in June 2008. It was one of the best drives of my life. Next time, I will drive the whole length of the parkway and stay longer at each place along the way.
