Ross and I went Friday night, and it was soooo great. The place was pretty full when we got there, but we were able to squeeze into a little pocket at the bar and start working on a bottle of wine while we waited to sit down.
We ended up being seated at a square four top table with another couple. They had been next to us at the bar, but until that we were strangers. (Another group of 2 who had been there before us decided to wait for a 2 person table instead of sharing the 4-top and they ended up waiting about an hour and a half to sit down)
Anyway our whole night was great. We talked with our tablemates for the whole couple hours we were there while we enjoyed dish after dish of amazing food.
Our server told us that 4-5 small plates are good for 2 people, so we went for it. Beets with blue cheese, brussel sprouts with bacon, mussel,octupus,romanesco salad with anchovy oil, porcini ravioli, and braised duck with persimmon and goat cheese.
I also love that it seems I could go back tomorrow and there would be a whole new menu written up on the chalk board.

Such an awesome little hotel! My parents are staying here for their 10 day visit and love it. They’ve been giving tours to all of my friends that get near the place.
Shared bathrooms with showers are huge and even have mood lighting and music piped in from the front desk. The feel is more pensione than hotel.

With the parents in from Delaware, this was the obvious choice for dinner last Friday. We were all super impressed. The only thing was that I had been told by friends that they always take their own wine and pay the corking fee, but when we brought out ours the waitress wasn’t too keen on the idea. I don’t know if others have had this experience, but it seems fairly standard to be able to bring your own wine as long as you expect the corkage fee.
Luckily after the initial uncomfortableness, the rest of the evening was great.

Was to meet with my new personal trainer. It’s a pretty small place and is specifically a training studio. So you don’t pay a membership fee, you just pay for your training sessions. It’s actually less expensive then using the trainers at my gym where I do pay a membership fee, which is crazy. And my guess is the trainers actually get to keep most of the money, instead of the gym.

I have my first job out of grad school here, and it’s a great job. Sucky that I have to commute from West Seattle, but it’s worth it.

Really I don’t like this place at all, and have spent more time here than I’d like. They have $4 Killer Ice Teas (their version of the LI) on Thursdays and I end up meeting Ross and his coworkers there. Luckily yesterday was one of his last days at the job, so I’m thinking we won’t have to go to the Rocksport anymore.

Why did I say “worth visiting”? They do have a GIANT tv. It’s like a movie screen. So, if you like watching baseball, basketball and football then it might be a good place. Also they have that trivia thing where you get your own little console and the questions come up on the tv’s hanging from the ceiling.

Otherwise, I’m pretty psyched that I might have made my last visit to the Rocksport last night!

I was excited when Cupcake Royale opened in West Seattle recently, even though their cupcakes are much prettier than tasty.
But last night I checked out Coffee to a Tea with Sugar who are supposed to have yummy and pretty cupcakes. I picked up 3 different flavors of baby cupcakes and they were delicious. To my pleasant surprise the shop itself is a really cozy cafe too.
Now I just feel bad that I hadn’t gone in this place before. It also seems like a great place to order cakes, if you want something special.

I’m looking for a flat/loft/condo for my parents to rent when they’re in town for 10 days in August. Craigslist is where I’ve been looking but so far haven’t found much. Any other ideas? It needs to be somewhat close to downtown since they won’t have a car.

Okkervill River played one of the best sets I have ever seen back in December and I am really excited that they are coming back to Seattle in a couple weeks. I doubt the lead singer will still have the flu, which I think only added to his performance, but hopefully they’ll still be great! And Georgetown is pretty cool, so it’s nice to have more excuses to head down there.

I moved to West Seattle a few months ago, and haven’t found a bar where I really like hanging out yet. This place sounds like it has a lot of potential to be that place, and it’s pretty close to home. And West Seattle is desperate for a good music venue!
