My favourite city in California. I’d love to go back.

Beautiful setting, good food, laid-back atmosphere. We loved it :-)

A quiet, pretty island within reach of Skopelos and Skiathos by boat or hydrofoil (there’s no airport on the island). There’s a lovely taverna right by the jetty which makes fabulous omelettes.

We’ve been to Skopelos twice. The scenery in and around the island is fabulous. Also, Skopelos Town has the best taverna we’ve ever been to anywhere in Greece!

Skopelos doesn’t have an airport, so you need to fly into Skiathos and get the hydrofoil from Skiathos Town to Skopelos Town.

I went to Reykjavik back when I was in primary school. It’s a great base for trips to some of the most spectacular countryside. There are places in Iceland that are like the surface of the moon, and hot springs which heat greenhouses to grow bananas.

It’s really not like anywhere else!

We’ve only ever been to Skiathos Town (we stayed in Skopelos twice), but it’s a very pretty place with some lovely little shops, bars and tavernas.

This is a wonderful, desolate place. Incredible geological formations which were the backdrop to many an old western movie.

There’s a very grand approach, lined with trees (full of chipmunks!) as you make your way up to view Mount Rushmore. It’s quite spectacular, on a much bigger scale than I had guessed from the photographs I’d seen.

The Strip is OK for a brief visit, though I don’t think I could spend two weeks there. I suppose it’d be different if I was a gambler, but I’m not. We played the slots with a predetermined maximum spend, and made a six dollar profit (wow!).

What is intereseting is that the city sits slap bang in the middle of desert, and some wonderful scenery is only a short distance away, so it would make a good base for anyone wanting to see more of Nevada.

Also worth noting in our experience is that, at least as far as The Strip is concerned, it feels very safe. We didn’t have much time to examine other parts of the city, sadly.

Nevada is a lovely state. We’ve been there twice now. Aside from Las Vegas, it’s a very scenic state, with some rugged landscapes.

Even on a sunny day, it’s a pretty spooky place to drive by…
