It’s, well, way cool. I lived in Krasnoyarsk for a little over a month when I was sixteen. (I have a key chain to prove it.) It’s dirty, cramped, and really charming about it. I’m beginning to remember less and less about it, but it really was fantastic. Look both ways before crossing the street though- the drivers are frick’n crazy. Nice downtown shopping area- be sure to buy some cheap CD’s. :)

When I was sixteen I took a trip to Siberia with ten schoolmates. (From Minnesota, US.) I think we were staying in Lesosibirsk (?) When we took a day trip to Lake Baikal. We played the Russian version of “Red Rover” on the shore, and ate a lot of strange meat and pastries and bliny and sweetened condensed milk at a picnic. It was absolutely brilliant. :)

When I was sixteen, I took a the trans-siberian railroad from Moscow to Krasnoyarsk. It was a three day train ride- it was my first week in Russia, and I didn’t know ANY Russian. (Save: “Preevyet!”) I was quite petrified. Three friends and I had a two bunk cabin to sleep in. We spent about 6 hours playing cards, one day… the train kept stopping in funny small towns… there were all kinds of interesting vendors when we stopped. Lots of people selling entire raw fish, and milk in plastic bags.
