Berlin, Germany
A Child of the Cold War
I lived in Berlin for 5 years in the late 70s and early 80s, when my father was stationed there and the Berlin Wall (East/West Germanys) was an ominous reminder of the Soviet Bloc threat. Of course, a lot has changed since then with the reunification and building efforts; much has not. It can be overwhelming for a visitor but there if you have a focus – on the history (war, freedom, museums, buildings built by the Allies), culture (festivals, galleries, cafes), recreation (Tiergarten Zoo, Grunewald, Wannsee) shopping (Ku’damm) and nightlife, you will be just fine!
