Maggie asks,

“Hey peeps. I heard some time ago about some chocolate factory in maybe Fremont, or Ballard, or Freelard, or Wallingmont, or something. But I have only found conflicting and vauge info online. Does anyone know what the factory is called and where it is?”

Maggie answers,

I want to take a tour, is why! And eat free candy.

Seattle, King County

Buster Benson asks,

“What's your favorite bar in Seattle and why?”

Maggie answers,

Jade Pagoda! Because I’m nostalgic and weak-minded.

also, cheap drinks…good jukebox…bartenders who recognize you…and number one reason—really great back patio that is the perfect place for summer drinking.

Maggie answers,

Whaaaaat. Well there is something to add to your “what’s going on this weekend” post—we should go asap.

ps I think the hideout is really my fave but I didn’t want re-run that answer.

Maggie answers,

you should have been more scared of the fact that they are always getting closed down for health code violations.

Capitol Hill, Seattle

Daniel Spils asks,

“Why does the Capitol Hill Block Party have to fence off the neighborhood like a war zone?”

Maggie answers,

hear hear. It’s so ugly and depressing. It’s not like tons of kids don’t sit in the park and listen for free anyway. I think it would be so much more fun if they opened it up and made it all ages. If they want to make some money they could do a seperate beer garden (and it is possible to make beer gardens with barriers besides chainlink fences and tarps, I’ve seen it!) but the stages should be open to all.

Tacoma, Pierce County

gussie15 asks,

“South Tacoma -- Good safe living? How about specifically the area close to McCord and Ft. Lewis (around Steele and 112th, I think)? Mostly interested in South side in general for safety.”

Maggie answers,

Hello,

I lived in SE Tacoma (Parkland) for four years during college. There was some meth in the area, lots of car break-ins and a serial rapist that was terrorizing our campus for awhile. I don’t remember a lot of violent crime, although you did hear about it from time to time and there was an incident where a crazy guy shot a professor on campus (it was not random), but that happens in every city. I would say I felt slightly less safe there than I do in Seattle.

McCord is an Airforce base I think, and they would occasionally set off bombs or something that would rock our whole house. When the big 2001 earthquake happened I actually thought the shaking was due to something really crazy going on at McCord. I didn’t notice the military culture that much but I was in the school bubble and not really hanging out with the neighbors. They did try to pick us up at bars often though. Ft. Lewis is an army base but it’s a bit of distance away from the area you are talking about.

I will say that I think north Tacoma is 100 million times cuter and nicer. It has a lot more character. You are closer to the museums and good restaraunts and bars and Ruston Way and Point Defiance and all that. And when I was living there the garage sales in North Tacoma were excellent.

Capitol Hill, Seattle

Daniel Spils asks,

“Has the ferrari on Broadway been there for years or did it just appear?”

Maggie answers,

wow, that is awful. I hadn’t noticed that either… Here’s some more info, sort of: http://www.thestranger.com/blog/2006/07/sports_car_club_on_b.php

Capitol Hill, Seattle

Daniel Spils asks,

“When did Orpheum Records go bye bye?”

Maggie answers,

You’re living in the 90s, man! Orpheum has been closed and the storefront empty for I would guess about three years now. I’m curious to see what’s going in there—it looks like some work is finally being done inside. I hope it is something good.
