We cruised Lake Nasser from Aswan to Abu Simbel (and back) via many of the tombs and temples saved by UNESCO. The boat actually moored in front of the temple on our first trip. This gave us the opportunity to see the sun come up at Abu Simbel when there are few people there.

Worth staying at for a couple of nights at least. Porters and/or cleaners will show you round some of the larger suites for a little baksheesh. The terrace, overlooking the Nile and Elephantine Island, is a pleasant place for afternoon tea and the restaurant, the ceiling in particular, is quite impressive.

Luxor is fantastic. I have been 4 times now and seriously thought about moving there for a while. Unfortunately the right job didn’t come up at the right time. Will definitely be going again in the next few years.

Had a great cpouple of weeks in Jamaica on my honeymoon. Did some of the touristy things – climbed Dunns River Falls, cycled down the Blue Mountains, visited platations – but spent much of the time just sipping rum and fruit punch, watching the afternoon rain storms, generally relaxing and er, well you know.

I want to go and see (or maybe stay aboard) the Queen Mary. My Great grandfather was Captain at one point and I’d love to see it.

I love Egypt. It really is as simple as that. I have been before, but there’s still so much more to see and I’ve not yet been to Alexandria.
