Eilat, Israel

It's all about the sea

Eilat- the most remote city in Israel (to most of the Israelis), is on the southern tip of the country. Countless times, on the nationwide weather report, they even forget to mention it. However, it is considered Israel’s hottest (and at the same time coolest), most attractive, tourist spot! Reddish tones, and dry climate, of the desert mountains that encircle the city give the visitor many nearby nature trails. From tiny motels to grand hotels, from delicious food served in many restaurants to a veriaty of night clubs, pubs, parties, and festivals, the city welcomes tourists. But, frankly, it’s all about the sea. Eilat sits on the shores of the Red Sea- home for dazzling coral reefs and marine fauna and flora. Sea-related attractions include windsurfing, parasailing, kitesurfing, boating, just chilling on the beach, snorkling, and of course SCUBA diving. Two places that are also worth visiting are the Dolphin Reef and the Underwater Observatory Marine Park (of Coral World). Sadly, the reefs detiriorate at an alarming rate- because of pollution, and humans who disrespect mother earth (or in this case, father sea). Yet, there is still plenty to see at the Gulf of Eilat, and people come here to dive from different parts of the world. The atmosphere in Eilat is very laid-back; a total contrast to the stressed Israeli lifestyle. Oh, and Eilat is also good for shopping- it’s VIT free.

But really, the reason I love Eilat, is not because of the clubs, nor the hotels, and shopping is not too fulfilling – it’s really just plainly all about the Red Sea.

Zichron Yaakov, Israel

Zichron Yaakov

Zichron is a gorgeous “Moshava” (a type of a settlement). It was founded at 1882, and was formerly called “Zamerin”. With aide from the Baron Rothschielld, it became an agricultural town, especially for olive trees and vines.

It also houses the second winery in Israel “Karmel Mizrachi” (the first was in Rishon Letzion).

The “Aaronson House” is also in Zichron. Members of this household have lead the “Nili” underground movement to overthrow the turks from Israel and welcome the British Mandate. The daughter Sarah commited suicide in this house after the Turks captured her, telling them she wishes to take a shower and shooting herself with the revolver she has hidden in the bathroom.

Overlooking the Med Sea, the town settles on the southern tip of Mount Carmel.

Today, it is not so much of an agricultural place, but more of a tourist spot. The central street houses an array of caffes and pubs. It is considered as one of the best places in Israel to live in.
