Stonehenge, Wiltshire

Untitled

The one place I really wanted to go in my life, I go, and you can’t even get near the stones. :(

Of course it’s still worth going, because even though you dont get to touch them, just being near them is still an amazing experience.

You get these funny shaped things that you listen to and its like having your own tour guide, which is pretty good, as the only other way of doing it would be with a tour guide, meaning set times, and being kicked out of the place when its time for the next tour.

Unfortuantly, if theres anybody slightly techno-phobic in your party, then they might find them difficult to use, as the things have the different language options ect. and you have to press different buttons at different points. (my poor mum was wandering round listening to the same bit of dialogue for about 5 mimns before she found me and told me to sort it out)

Also, something to note is that to get there, you have to park across the road, where you pay(! – although the money does go to the National Trust) to get in and pick up your tour guide things, before going in this under-the-road tunnel to get to the Stones.

I don’t acctualy know how much it is to get in, as I’m a member of the National Trust (well…parents are. I get in free coz I’m still on their cards) and so we didn’t have to pay to get in.

All in all, it’s worth a visit, but you’re not in there for ages, so its not worth planning a day out just to see it if you’re at the other end of the country. Wait untill you’re in the area on holiday or visiting relatives ect.

Even though you can’t get really close, you can get close enough to be in awe of the utter brilliance of the place.
