Lambs Go

Worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

It’s a bar. Get it?

Well, I didn’t the first time. About four months after I went there, friends and I were talking about it, and I suddenly realised. Doh!

Great place though. Tucked away down a side street of Smith Street. Has a pool table, and a little beer garden, where apparently you can book the barbecue and cook your own meals.

Pizza Meine Liebe

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

Went last night with my friend Em.

She ordered the ‘Greenpeace’ pizza (with spinach and broccoli), whilst I chose ‘Rosemary 4 Michelle’ (potato with slow-cooked onion… er, stuff). And no, I didn’t choose the pizza because of the name… but Em and I both giggled a little when it was brought to the table and announced.

The pizza was delicious… but what really impressed us was dessert. We decided on the dessert calzones, and shared the raspberry with vanilla icecream along with the Nutella with pistachio icecream. The combination of the two was sublime, with the tangy raspberries lifting, but not overwhelming, the melted gooey Nutella. Yuuuuuuum.

The Famous Spiegeltent

Worth visiting!

Untitled

The Famous Spiegeltent

“A European Mirror Tent – the ultimate cabaret and music salon’.

Spiegeltents are hand-hewn pavilions used as traveling dance halls, bars and entertainment salons since they were created in the early 20th century. There are only a hand-full of these unique and legendary ‘tents of mirrors’ left in the world today. Built of wood, mirrors, canvas, leaded glass and detailed in velvet and brocade, each has its own personality and style.

The most beautiful of the last remaining Belgian Spiegeltents, The Famous Spiegeltent, was built in 1920 by master craftsmen Oscar Mols Dom and Loius Goor. This Grande Dame has spent her lifetime at the bequest of festivals and fairgrounds throughout Europe and beyond, playing host to the world’s greatest cabaret artists, musicians and circus burlesque performers.

Since Marlene Dietrich sang ‘Falling In love Again’ on The Famous Spiegeltent stage in the 1930’s, its magic mirrors have reflected thousands of images of artists, audiences and exotic gatherings.

The Famous Spiegeltent is the very essence of a festival club, ‘kabaret salon’ and intimate concert hall. Like every old theatre, her ghosts travel with her, woven into ballooning velvet canopies, circular teak dance floor and stained, cut-glass windows. Her intimate booths, ornate bar and beveled mirror columns hold a million secrets while her glorious Art Nouveau chandelier, or trapeze rig, swings overhead.

The Famous Spiegeltent is a mainstay of the Edinburgh Festivals season and is a star in her own right, hosting parties, concerts, clubs and a myriad stunning performances. She has launched the careers of countless artists and travels to the four corners of the world from Edinburgh to Melbourne, Brighton to Montreal.

The Famous Spiegeltent embodies the living spirit of her operational team of the cheekiest hat checkers in the business. She is a living legend and will forever remain the stuff of dreams!

Welcome to the unique world within a world of The Famous Spiegeltent!

Why I want to go to this place

I’m going to Dubai in January… I have a five-night stopover on my way to the UK.

Woo hoo!

Pint On Punt

Worth visiting!

Trivia hangout

The Pint is a regular destination… when we’re attending trivia on Tuesday nights. They have a $10 steak deal… which is mostly pretty darn good.

The chef does change every now and again, so occasionally it’s not quite so good. But that’s fairly rare.

Wesley Anne

Why I want to go to this place

From what I’ve been told, I understand that Wesley Anne is a converted church. I drive past it all the time, and it seems to be quite popular. I’ve heard that it’s fabulous, particularly in the warmer weather.

Pizza Meine Liebe

Worth visiting!

Why I want to go to this place

I’ve heard great things about the pizza here, from a number of different sources over the past couple of years.

Apparently they’re only open for dinner, but every night of the week. Will just have to make a time to get there!

Brunswick Street

Worth visiting!

Eclectic, to say the least.

Brunswick Street is comprised of the most amazing mix of businesses and restaurants. Trendy, modern, bohemian and perverse, all along the one stretch of road.

If you want a choice of cuisine, this is the place to go. Thai, vegetarian, Greek, modern, Malaysian, Afghan, Japanese, Chinese, and fabulous pub food… and these are just the ones I can recall off the top of my head. Definitely worth visiting… I’ve done so time and time again, and will continue to do so.

Northcote Social Club

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Just down the road.

My first visit here was thanks to some free tickets that I won from a radio station. It’s a great venue for live music, with a good atmosphere in the main bar. Apparently it’s changed quite a lot over the last few years… from dodgy-run-by-the-local-footy-club, to modern-but-not-too-trendy. The fact that it’s five minutes from my home is a huge bonus.

Went last night, to see Sara Storer play. Once again, had a great night out.

I'd go here...

... to visit Imoeris! Oh, and see all of the great things Canberra has to offer, of course :-)
