Monhegan Island, Lincoln County

Monhegan Island

is heaven on earth, to me. A chunk of rock with dramatic cliffs, deep, mysterious woods, a charming village of authentic people, nothing cute. No cars allowed. 3 or 4 lovely hotels, open only in the summer. Sweet roses, picket fences, twisted apple trees, fishermen’s gear on the lawns, crashing surf, crusty Mainers year-round residents. Salt and pine and peregrine falcons. My favorite place in all the world. Lily

Duxbury, Massachusetts

Duxbury MaSSACHUSETTS

I live in Duxbury, a small seaside town just north of Plymouth and 20 mins from the bridge to Cape Cod. The town is best known as the settlement started by John Alden and Myles Standish. It is full of white clapboard houses, old cemetaries, a small harbor and plenty of space to learn to sail which is the first thing we did when we moved here nearly 25 years ago. The best thing about Duxbury is the long, barrier beach. There are no buildings allowed on the beach until you reach the very end where the lighthouse stands. Then there is a small colony of beach houses lining the bend in the shoreline. I spend many hours there looking at birds as soon as the sunbathers leave in the fall. Come visit! Lily
