Austin Children's Museum

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

They featured a lunch time “concert” in the lobby. The space is great for toddlers—they don’t have to stay in their seats, and they can dance and explore while listening to the music.

It was great to meet my friends their with their kiddos, the kids got to have a lot of fun, and we didn’t have to worry about what they were getting into. We all had a good time.

Best if you can bring a kid for “cover.” ;-)

Fredericksburg

Birthday Fun

Spent my birthday in Fredericksburg. We rented a little B&B (just one room!) with a private hot tub out back. Soaking in the warm water and looking up at the stars was a delight!

The next day, we hiked around Enchanted Rock. Next time, I would hike first, then soak in the tub. ;-)

It is about a 90 minute drive from Austin. If you have the time, and enjoy seeing pretty countryside, then I would recommend this to visitors to Central Texas.

Oaxacan Tamaleo's

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to locals

Unbelievably tiny, and a limited menu. Very fresh with authentic Oaxacan touches. (We had some incredible tomatos there the other week, apparently from someone’s garden.. ohmy!)

Pick between lovely Mole, tamales or grilled Talapia. Always check for the daily special, for you never know what Leo might have ready.

if you are not convinced by the location (inside a mini-mart…) just follow the steady stream of locals for some authentic Oaxacan treats.

Whole Foods Market

Worth visiting!

Mega-opilis of Food, service and Variety

The King of food shopping experiences with a huge variety, plentiful services, and fresh dining.

So amazing, that it can be difficult to find a standard grocery item… however you cannot go wrong if you are looking for healthy, organic produce, bakery and grocery items.

If you want to be sure you are eating clean, and the food is top quality – then add Whole Foods to the list. it will change your view on food!

Wonderful fresh food selection on site… meet a friend for lunch, and you wll be discussing it all week!

Central Market

Worth visiting!

Produce Rules

We love it! Believe it or not, Central market is one of the “tourist attractions’ we show out-of-town guests!

In Austin we are totally spoiled by having 2 Food Market meccas within minutes of each other. Central Market has that neighborhood-easy atmosphere, with staff always ready to help with the odd question, cooking classes with expert foodies of all types, and seasonal specials that have you looking forward to next years “kumkuat season.”

Great place to feed your fresh produce fetish. (Look for the micro vegetables next time.. ohhhhhh, my my!)

Even our very maintstream-eater relatives have asked to re-visit!

And of course, close enough for regular shopping, and counter folks that will help you with whatever you fancy.

Taco Shack

Worth visiting!

Breakfast Tacos a-go-go

Taco Shack is a family run group of restaurants. (Hate to call it a chain, since it is so small.. and definitely not cookie cutter.)

The foot is fresh, fast and reasonably priced. Each location is run by a family member, and the menus items are named after various Austin locations or family members.

My husband just can’t turn down a “Burnet Road Breakfast Burrito.”

The Alamo

Worth visiting!

Interesting, and Educational

We have been to the Alamo a couple of times, and it definitely was better after we read up on some of the history of the Alamo.

Worth visiting!

Fascinating, intriguing...

Went through the canal on our honeymoon cruise. It was the highlight of the trip, totally amazing that the canal operates pretty much as designed!

Artful, awesome

Visited Oaxaca in 2004 with my family. Staying in the city was wonderful, and the countryside was amazing.

We moved to Austin for work, and are going to stay. Great small town approach, with lots of big city benefits.
