I just got back from a trip to Rock Island State Park, which necessitated driving trough Washington Island. I was really impressed by how much there was to do on the island! We had a great lunch at Nelsen’s Hall, and I fell in love with the Stavkirke. We also spent some time at Little Lake, Schoolhouse beach, and made the climb up the lookout tower. Door County in general is beautiful and historical, and Washington Island is no exception!

I went on a school-sponsored trip to D.C. for four days in the summer of 2001, before the terrorist attacks. I really want to go back and see how the sites have changed.

This state park is absolutely beautiful. Our campsite had a hidden path leading down to what seemed like our own private stone beach on Lake Superior. It was a wonderful trip.

This is by far my favorite of the Disney-area parks. You can go around the world in a day!

My family and I were here the week of Easter, which is when all the Puerto Ricans go on vacation to Vieques, too! The beaches were crowded with campers and there was a great celebratory vibe all over the whole island. This place has some of the cleanest, bluest beaches I’ve ever seen.

I went on the classic family road trip to Mt. Rushmore when I was 9; my little brother was 6. My favorite picture from the trip shows me and my dad looking through the binoculars towards the mountain, while my little brother is looking off in the completely wrong direction.

In order to get to Rock Island State Park, you must take a ferry from Northport to Washington Island, then another ferry from Washington Island to Rock Island. By the time you get there, the remoteness is well worth the trip. The island itself is quite small (only a 6.5 mile hike around the perimeter) but there is a beautiful lighthouse and boathouse. If you’re really adventurous, reserve one of the backpacking campsites. The family campground is closer to the dock, but each site is very secluded. Our site (18) had a cliff with a rock beach at the bottom. Overall this island is a wonderful getaway.

I’m currently going to school at UW Madison, and I must say I couldn’t have chosen a better place to be. The campus is safe, albeit massive. The best time to come is summer or fall, and if you can get tickets to a Badger football game do it! After the game, eat at Ian’s Pizza, where pizza toppings range from steak & fries to mac & cheese.
