Bear Point Sanctuary, Fort Pierce

I disagree with the Mosquito Control dikes, since they cripple the natural purposes of the mangrove swamps by controlling water flow, and the invasion of fire ants that seem to keep the fiddler crab populations down but it’s still a fine place. Hike or bike the dike, walk out waist deep and pitch some shrimp or hit the inner ditches with small jigs.

Indian River Lagoon, Fort Pierce

Intro

With an average depth of four and a half feet the IRL is a shallow water angler’s haven. It holds four of Florida’s most popular inshore gamefish year-round: Snook, Spotted Seatrout, Red Drum, and the mighty Tarpon. Mangrove shorelines, seagrass beds, sand and oyster bars, spoil islands, and the Atlantic Intra-coastal Waterway are found the length of the lagoon; while Fort Pierce itself is home to an Atlantic inlet, a 25foot deep ‘turning basin’, and Harbor Branch Marine Institute.

They say strange rites are squeeled on six-strings at the Garage when the moon is new and the tide is slack, and that uncouth dances swirl across the dance floor as rebels and miscreants belt out confirmations of the Void.

They also say you can get Flying Dog Old Scatch on tap and hear live music every weekend, play some pool or toss some darts, or catch a B horror flick on the projection screen.
