Burlington, Chittenden County

Untitled

I’ve always liked Burlington, and coming from Montreal isn’t too hard. I don’t hop the border often, but I figure if I do, what better place? It’s relaxed, it’s well proportionned age-wise, has a small town feel when it’s basically a city. This is an entry about something that happenned the last few times I was there.

(The last 2 Times) I was there, there were people protesting abortions on the street. I was too shocked to remember which the first time, and the second time my kids were with me (and were very distraught because the people yelling at the cars). Some of them were just kids themselves, looking like they didn’t know why they were standing there and others were screaming, their faces screwed up and hate-filled, provocative slogans and drawings in hand.

They scared my own kids and made us want to go home. So we did. It was just a normal sunday afternoon, I thought. I would hope this doesn’t happen a lot in Burlington, and I would still recommend the place. Just remember, as my friend Eve says, you’re still in the US.
