Home!

We recently moved to Southern Illinois, which is home to my partner. I’d been through Illinois only once, many years ago, and had only seen Chicago on that trip, so moving here has been a brand new adventure … and I love it.

The Shawnee Forest is our backyard and I cross the Mississippi River every day to work in Cape Girardeau, MO. We just bought a 100-year-old farmhouse on 20 very rural acres and we love the peace and quiet. We’re very close to Horseshoe Lake and both the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, and honestly … after 50 years in the desert southwest I feel like I’ve died and gone to heaven.

I didn’t know it, but this is exactly where I’ve always wanted to be.

Chocolate World

What’s not to love?? We stayed in Pittsburgh, drove through Lancaster County, bought Shoo-Fly pie in an Amish grocery store, spent a day in Hershey eating chocolate samples and had lunch in a great old Colonial house that’s now a traditional Colonial restaurant. There were too many Homeland Security folks to get past to see the Liberty Bell.

I thought Pennsylvania was gorgeous.

Hilton Head

I spent a week at Hilton Head when my ex was there on business. We went for a sunset sail on the America’s Cup yacht, The Stars and Stripes, and had cherry limeade on the beach. Pretty!
