Oregon Museum Of Science And Industry, Buckman

Well, maybe...

If you are in Portland, visiting, or if you just moved here and you are looking for something to do with the kids… it’s ok. Don’t go expecting anything too great, though. A lot of exhibits were non-functional or poorly explained. Some of them were just gimmicky, and not really very educational. My son is pretty young, and he didn’t get a lot of it. But the 8 and 9 year olds we saw seemed to be having a good time, running around crazy. To be fair, we didn’t visit the submarine. Maybe that’s worth a visit, I don’t know. The Exploratorium in San Francisco is the king of all science museums, so maybe it’s not fair to compare; but OMSI really doesn’t stand up. I’ve also been to better science museums in Paris, Amsterdam, and Munich. And the one in Seattle is pretty good, too. And closer to Portland, I guess!

Tour Eiffel, 7e Arrondissement

Bigger than you think

I could go on and on about how big it is, and how you’ll never believe how big it is, and how it’s the biggest thing I’ve ever seen, blah blah, and you will STILL be surprised at how big it is. Cause it’s really big.

Hearst Castle, San Simeon

If you're driving by, it's worth a stop

This area is one of my favorite places for roadtrips, so I’ve actually been to Hearst Castle a few times, as a tired-of-driving pit-stop. It is beautiful (though not a “castle” by any standards other than American), and has good historic value. The tours are nice, and definitely worth it the first time. But if it’s a sunny day and you don’t have the entrance fee, try just walking the grounds a bit.
