Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Hollywood

Eeep

I went there this summer…..just walking along, checking out various graves (some of which are extremely lavish – giant book sculptures, fountains, steps etc), when a murder of crows descended on me. I am not joking! They weren’t going to rip my hair out or anything, but I ran the hell out of there. And this was in the daytime! That place looks quite surreal with giant palm trees interspersed among the gravestones and mausoleums. Only found one famous grave (it was pretty huge, so it’s bloody easy to get lost) – Mel Blanc. It was smallish, tall, slim, no ornate carvings or markings, but a simple inscription: “That’s All, Folks”, and someone had left a soft toy of Pepe Le Pew against the headstone. Very poignant.

Gilmore Girls Set, Warner Bros Studio Tour

wow!

I went there on a WB studio day tour this summer in Hollywood…it was so cool! The tour operator knew that a few of the group were fans of the show, so when we were touring the set of the Dragonfly Inn, she had me (I was the only girl fan there) stand on Lauren Graham (Lorelai)‘s marker and this other bloke on Yanic Truesdale (Michel)’s marker behind the reception desk – where they’d just been filming that morning :) We got to see a lot of the sets, including the Sookie’s kitchen at the Inn (none of which I had seen before as UK tv hasn’t got that far yet), as well as Lorelai’s house, which was a “hot set” (they were about to film there), and also the entire exterior of the town centre including the gazebo in the main square. None of the cast members were around the sets while we were touring but in the comissary Edward Herrmann (Richard Gilmore) was queuing up next to me to get some pasta =D…of course I was too geeked-out to say anything at all…..I loved visiting the sets, and it somehow didn’t take away any of the charm of the show.
