Worth visiting!

Itsukushima Shinto Shrine

The island is officially named Itsukushima, but is more commonly known as Miyajima, which is Japanese for ‘shrine-island’.

The gardens were really pretty.

Genbaku Dome

I won’t forget the sight of it, lit up from the inside at night. Sad and eerie.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

We bought our breakfast from a convenience store, and ate it in the park. During the day, we found it to be full of colour and movment and noise. There were schoolkids everywhere. The people were lovely. My friend and I got caught up chatting (with our highschool-level Japanese and their limited English) to a class of littlies and their teacher, who had called out to us as we passed.
At night, it’s very quiet and serene. Genbaku Dome is lit up from the inside and looks very eerie.

Miyajima Island

My friend and I hired a couple of bikes for a few hours and rode along the beach and then through the village. It was a good way to take in the sights, as we only had two hours to spend. Coming back along the beach, I took this photo of an old man fishing off the rockwall.
