Alta is simply a fantastic place to ski; for me, it’s become an annual pilgimmage. There’s a great variety of terrain and frequent deep powder to play in. Minimal lift lines on weekdays even during peak periods. Alta itself is a skier-only resort - snowboards aren’t permitted - although it’s contiguous with Snowbird, which I believe does allow snowboarding.

Cornell was everything I was looking for in a university: great academic reputation in both science/technical fields and humanities, located in a truly idyllic setting.

Having grown up in southern California, I was a bit unprepared for the brutal winters, but they didn’t put a damper on the experience—and there’s no doubt that going to school in a different part of the country dramatically expanded my perspectives.
