Why do I want to go to Florence? Ask a silly question! However, I think I would need to live there for a month to really appreciate Florence, the museums, the culture and of course the art.

I was in my 20s just out of a relationship and needed to escape. I travelled to the St Lucia on my own (which I still find incredible) and had an amazing time. I stayed at an all inclusive resort which had a health spa as I needed pampering! It was located near Castries in the north of the island. I was lucky in that I met lots of interesting and fun people – I am still exchanging Christmas cards with a few some 17 years later. It was truly paradise – OK maybe it would have been more romantic if I had been with a partner but I still enjoyed every minute of the holiday and my friends at home were so envious. The botanical gardens and waterfall are a must see, as is a trip to the dormant volcano (the smell of sulpur aside). I toured the island in a hired jeep with a family staying at my hotel and it is the only way to see and appreciate this place. I even tried some snorkelling, had a trip on a catamaran, and got some superb aerial shots of the Grenadines.

Our friend Jules lives here with her husband and family. It is on our list of places to visit as we now feel quite guilty that she has visited us in the UK three times – it is about time we reciprocated.
