Sorry, while I was there we simply stayed in the city at a hotel.
Good luck, I love that city.

Italy is by far one of my most favorite places to go in the world and I have been all over.
My wife & I flew to Venice and drove down to a town called San Gimignano(little Manhattan as it is called) is about 30 min from Florence situated in the Tuscany wine hills (talk about romantic) we would take day trips to Florence (recommend 2 days), Pisa, Sienna, Portofino then drove back to Venice and stayed there for 4 days and saw everything by boat, foot and car.
We both still talk about that vacation, my recommendation is 10 to 14 days take it all in an oh yea Don’t go when the world goes go before or after the tourist season, you will enjoy it much better.

Depending on where you are going first and how long you have, we did this trip years ago and it was the most wonderful vaca we have had in our lives (we travel extensively) Italy captured my heart. We flew into Venice (Venezia) then immediately grabbed a car and went to south to a town called San Gimignano, its a small town nestled in the Tuscany region we used as a base (we stayed there for a week) but every day we traveled to fabulous places like Pisa, Siena and many more including Florenza where yes the art is wonderful and all are in the day trip distance, once back you will feel at home in San Gimignano, where she is known as the tower city and is one huge piazza. If you are going to Rome first you can stop on the way north to Venezia- oh how the heart misses the Tuscany region – time to go back!! PLAN the GO
