Bear Beach Cafe, South Lake Tahoe

Practically Perfect!

My family and I ate here every day that we were in South Lake Tahoe. Though pricey for breakfast, everything was delicious. The menu variety was exciting. My kids ate well. I ate enough breakfast to last me through much of the day! I had a different omelette for every morning. They were all spectacular. My only criticism is that they over do the cheese sometimes, and the mango salsa omelette would be complete with a little bit of tomatoes, at least… to make it seem more like a salsa.

The staff was always so kind, and even after the first day of visiting, the hostess recognized us from the day before, as well as some of the wait staff. Aside from kindness and friendliness, they were all so very intuitive—which is incredibly important when small children are involved! One waitress was quick to offer us some crackers to hold off my fiending children until our meals were ready. Some people don’t realize that the smallest gestures like that can save a parent’s sanity. If I am ever in SLT again, this will be our first food stop for sure!

Roses, Orcas Island

lovely variety of food!

the bean soup, lasagna, and pizzas are amazing! They also make a gorgeous cup of hot chocolate and tasty deserts. We had a lovely waitress who played peek-a-boo with my son. It’s such a gorgeous little place to eat in one of earth’s paradises. It’s definitely worth checking out! Wine and cheese lovers will definitely have a good time there, too. I didn’t try any, but they’ve got a big variety.

Theo Chocolate, Fremont

delicious and strange

when it comes to chocolate, these people got it down, although I think their flavor experiments go a little too far. I just wanted some simple caramels. The most down to earth thing I could find was the coffee caramel. I spent 27 bucks on a 12 pack of chocolates consisting of things I mostly ended up not liking. I wish I just bought a straight bar of organic milk chocolate. I just want to taste the chocolatey goodness! I’m sure the flavor combos are great for some, but I don’t like to get too experimental with chocolate. Honey and saffron on my chocolate covered caramel isn’t exciting. Sometimes I think people get too experiment-happy and wind up creating bogus work and then have the nerve to call it gourmet and charge an arm and a leg for it. Salt on my caramels? no thanks. Earl grey caramels? no… I shoulda just got the damn chocolate bar. Oh well. Next visit to Seattle I’m doing Theo right.
