La Plus Petite Ville du Monde

Cute…cobblestone streets, medieval architecture…quite touristy.

Kolkata, West Bengal

City of Joy

City of my birth. The poverty, the grime, the richness of culture, the throngs of people, the food—sometimes hot sometimes sweet—the colonial legacy, the juxtaposition of rich and poor, old and new. Calcutta is all encompassing, it is a contradiction. Don’t go there expecting to find pleasant things—although you might—but go there to enrich your mind with new, unforgettable sights, sounds, tastes, smells, and experiences.

Mussoorie, Uttarakhand

Queen of the Hills

Mussoorie is a former British hill station in the foothills of the Himalayas, located in the new state of Uttaranchal Pradesh. It is where the Indian side of my family is from so I have been visiting there since birth. It’s a place of beauty, fresh mountain air, lush green forests, quiet hideaways, nature tours and more. You’ll see monkeys everywhere! My family has a shop in Sister’s Bazaar that has been selling homemade jams, peanut butter and cheddar cheese for eons (okay not eons but for generations). We also have a cute little “hotel” (more like an inn) called Devdar Woods that has some awesome pizza and is just a great, quiet place to stay all around. Sorry for the advertising, but check out Mussoorie if you’re in the area!
