Gordon's Wine Bar

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place  — 2 years ago

The first time I went here, I was on a business trip to London. I went in and was surprised to see how many people, and different kinds of people were in there. A very friendly person directed us around, helping us get to the bar and suggested we find/ask/take any open seats that were available, as it’s a very friendly place, and everyone is friends there. I said he must either work there, or spend a lot of time in there, and he replied that he owns the place, with a bit smile on his face. :) A couple of bottles of wine later we were talking about how the place was handed down through the family. This is a great place with a lot of history.

I went back a couple of times, their wine suggestions were always great, the mood and the company the same. If you stay long enough get a seat and drink a bottle, you’ll likely end up sitting with some complete strangers that will feel like friends by the end of the night. It’s definately crowded, but so much so to the point that it helps bring people together. HIGHLY recommended!

Singapore

Worth visiting!

A great place to visit... Very clean.  — 2 years ago

Well, I spent about a week and a half working in Singapore when my company had to move our datacenter 2 floors in the same building… heh..

Great place to visit. Everything seems just a little bit off / different, but all strangely familiar. The sign “Watch Your Steps” comes to mind. Fortunately I had a native friend/coworker to take me around and help haggle for things I purchased. Everything’s negotiable, even dinner at nice resturants, and having someone that speaks the native tongues (yes, several different flavors), is a definate plus. There are a lot of amazing temples out there and most everyone I talked to was very friendly.

It is a bit strange being 6’2” in a place like this, especially when you try to take a ride on the SMRT (Singapore Mass Rapid Transit). I hit my head several times, and couldn’t stand upright while in the train. Also funny seeing all the “No Durian” signs around the SMRT… I guess it’s tastey, but I couldn’t get passed the smell.

I wish I had more time outside of work to see more of the city.. Maybe I’ll go back some day.

El Puerco Lloron

Worth visiting!

A review of this place  — 2 years ago

Excellent Mexican food… I love “hole in the wall” type places, with a lot of character, and above all – great food. This place fits the bill. Their food is always tastey, the people friendly, and the atmosphere with the worn down folding chairs & card tables makes it all feel cozy. My favorite is probably the Chile Relleno… though I haven’t had a bad dish there yet. The choices of salsa are also very tastey… I recommend the milder / chunky salsa.
