Two weeks in Asian heaven
I spent two weeks training to rappel the summer of 1979. This place was too cool. During our days off we walked and hitchhiked around the island. Great waterfalls and neat snake caves (caves resulting from volcanic flows I think). Hot as the dickens that summer but was a blast for a 19 year old. Remember the roads being paved with asphalt by hand by women who looked to be in their 60’s and 70’s. I have some great photos that I will have to locate, scan and upload to give people a look at the island nearly 30 years ago. Enjoyed my year in Korea in most respects but hated the time on the DMZ. Tough times back then, especially when their president got murdered by their CIA chief. Thought the North Koreans were coming down and was scared…. Great people though, good food, hardworking and still lived with lots of tradition. Gatortrapper, July 2006
